Laser hair removal aims a beam of light at the pigment in the hair. The light turns to heat in the hair follicle and slows its regrowth. Because hair grows in cycles, it takes a course of sessions to treat every follicle in its growing phase.
We use a laser suited to a wide range of skin tones and always patch test first. If your hair is very fair, red or grey, we’ll tell you honestly at the consultation that laser is unlikely to help.
A medical treatment: it starts with a consultation with one of our prescribers, who checks your health and medicines and only treats if it is right for you. Results vary from person to person.
Who it suits
- Most skin tones, with the right laser setting
- Dark hair; fair, red and grey hair responds poorly
- Underarms, bikini line, legs, upper lip and chin
Not for you if
- You are pregnant
- You have a tan or fake tan in the area
- You take medicines that make skin sensitive to light
- You have a tattoo or a mole in the area (we work round them)
What happens
- A consultation and a patch test, at least 48 hours before the first session
- Shave the area the day before; no waxing or plucking for four weeks
- Goggles on; the laser passes over the skin in short pulses with a cooling tip
- A soothing gel and sunscreen
Aftercare
- No sun, sunbeds or fake tan on the area for two weeks
- No hot baths, saunas or perfumed products for 48 hours
- Shave between sessions if you need to; don't wax or pluck
